Commitment to Education

One of the BMOA’s primary goals as an organization is to empower young people and build leaders for tomorrow. The annual “Dr. King Summit” is a signature program that the BMOA presents that focuses on education and empowerment for area elementary school students. This program is done each year around Dr. King’s birthday. In addition, the BMOA participates in and contributes to numerous programs and events throughout the year that encourage youth in education and leadership endeavors.

Recently, the BMOA teamed up with the Chicago Defender Charities to support local college-bound African-American students with scholarships. These scholarships were named after some of the honorable BMOA members who are now deceased: Herman Petty, the very first Black McDonald’s Owner/Operator, Herb Bias, a successful McDonald’s Owner/Operator of multiple restaurants in Chicago who took over Herman Petty’s restaurant after he retired, and Cirilo McSween, former BMOA president and Owner/Operator of 11 McDonald’s restaurants in Chicago.
